First of all, I would like to welcome you all to Daily Bible Study.
Spiritual Gifts - first series
Today we are going to deal with Spiritual Gift & Fruits of The Holy Spirit (Spiritual Fruits) . I have found while teaching in class and church, that believers are in dilemma and having trouble about the distinguishable characteristics of Spiritual Gift & Fruit of The Holy Spirit. So in my view one of the key factor for strong foundation for Christian faith is believer should know about both and its differences. It is sad to know many churches they are giving less priority in this both foundational factor.
But what Paul is saying to us in Ephesians 6: 12 is that "our fight is not against people on earth but rather we fight against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world's darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places."
Again Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:20 "Our citizenship is in Heaven "
Since, We are citizens of Heaven and our fight is against the power and authority of Dark World that means our war is spiritual so we should have knowledge and wisdom for Heaven's things i.e Spiritual Gift & Fruit of The Holy Spirit.
let's deal each :-
Spiritual Gift( Charism) :
Since I am also a youth, I have found many youth believers who are having problem with their Gifts, some of them are unknown about their gifts, others are in confusion what actually it is and some of them mix it with spiritual fruit. But I would like to clarify Spiritual gift and fruit of Holy Spirit are completely different aspects so we need to see them from different dimension. one of the main difference of spiritual Gifts and fruit is we cannot generate, create, produce, cultivate, own and earn Spiritual Gifts while about fruit- Yes, we can.
No one is Gift less in fact 7.53 billion in this world have some gifts. God has provided each one of us some gifts. Isn't that amazing?
so what exactly is Spiritual Gift?
Actually it is a extraordinary power, unique instinct, ability, talent &quality given to us by the grace of God through Holy Spirit. We were not qualified to have this wonderful, amazing and unique Gifts from God because we were once sinners but sacrifice of Jesus Christ we came to a beautiful relationship with God where we became children of God (Romans8:15-17) and we were able to have this Gifts.
secondly, we need to develop our Gifts. this phase includes utilization and productivity of Gifts. For simplicity, when we gets Gifts we gets it in initial phase i.e baby phase so it need more attention, care and nourishment. After continuous utilization and practice it begins to develop and reaches to development phase. After that our Gifts produces disciples, followers, ministry, more gifts, fruits which is called productive phase. Some Gifts reach to developed phase but never reaches to productive phase and that's sad.
How many Spiritual Gift are there?
There is no exact number that we can count and consider as Spiritual Gift but some of known Biblical Gifts are :-

You see there is involvement of Triune God in Spiritual Gifts so it is not an ordinary Gift. You cannot own or earn it by your good deeds nor you can buy it. Normally we cannot have gift because we wants it. It depends upon another person's desire either he desires to give us or not. Same goes with our Spiritual gift, it also depend upon God so there is no exact number of spiritual gift that one should have. God has sole authority and control over spiritual gift.
Nurture and Develop your Gifts : One should be humble and honest in his/her gift to nurture and develop their primary gift (present gifts) only then they have rights to desire for more gifts in prayer. If one ignores to nurture, utilize and to develop primary gifts then s/he cannot desire for more gifts. Jesus made this principle clear on Luke 19:26, "He replied, 'I tell you that everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away.' " we might think what kind of strange principle is this but actually what Jesus is saying is that who ever protects, utilizes and develop what he has and becomes productive, he will have more than that who is careless, lazy and unproductive. Same principle applies in our spiritual gifts. Every day we need to develop our gifts. We are accountable for our Gifts.
No one is Gift Less : We all are uniquely Gifted by God. Number of Gifts might be different but we all have Gift. One could have multiple Gifts while another might have single one but there is no case like Gift less. Every human being on this earth is sent with specific purpose. We are here to play small role to play from whole script.To play small role in God's plan Spiritual Gifts empower us with unique abilities. Every individual have their own gifts which are equally unique and important. According to Paul gifts are like each parts of body which are equally important to us and we are incomplete without each one of them.
Identification : We must identify our Gifts. What is your Gift? We cannot work in wrong area. It won't give any result. Fish must identify that they are there to swim, birds must identify that they are there to fly. If fish tries to fly and birds tries to swim they will never succeed. I am always amazed that church is full package of wonders and surprises because it has got wonderful Gifts from God. Paul compares church with the body of Christ and claims like body has multiple unique parts, church has multiple unique Gifts (1 Corinthians 12). So we must understand that our differences is not difference but uniqueness. If we understand it we can easily accept our uniqueness. If each one of us could identify and recognize 'which body part is me' and our place we can work effectively and can influence others as well. Pray to God, spend time with Him for this revelation. Nurturement & Development : first, we need to nurture our Gifts. It is the process of nourishment. Your Gifts need protection. But from what? from lot of things. I would like to give an example. Gifts can extinct from bad influence. Today we are easily influenced by various celebrities, successful personalities, actors and media. We try to be like them, we imitate their lifestyle, behavior, style also we try to copy their Gifts and slowly loose our own. It is not bad to learn from good and successful personalities but always keep in mind that whoever you are, whatever you've got, wherever you are in God has plan for it.
